About us
The Glen Innes Motorsports Club Inc (GIMSC) was formed in the 1980’s and since that time the Club has been actively raising funds to provide members and the wider community an outlet to participate in and watch motor sports events.
In the past, GIMSC staged drag racing events utilising the runway at the airport. These events were very successful though in recent years the staging of these events ceased for a number of reasons, including:
1. Change in Council policy regarding use of the runway and limiting its use to aviation related activities.
2. Deterioration of the runway surface requiring it to be re-surfaced. The deterioration was due to a number of factors such as age of the runway surface and the size of aircraft, such as bush fire fighting aircraft, requiring use of the runway for landings and takeoff.
GIMSC has continued to stage events to raise funds and these have contributed to the financial position that the Club is in today. Our major event is the annual Triple Challenge Show and Shine held in October each year.
GIMSC is a community minded club and has the following aims:
1. To provides an outlet for the community to participate in and watch motor sport events at little or no cost.
2. To provide an opportunity for members and other members of our community to refine their driving skills promoting road safety in the community.
3. To provide members and others in the community the opportunity of interacting with others who share the passion of all things relating to cars and motor sports.
4. To provide our members with concessional registration of qualifying historic vehicles.
5. To promote tourism of the Glen Innes area through the staging of events.
Eligible new members are welcome to come join our Club.
